About the Doctors

Maria L. Meliton, DMD, FAAPD

Board Certified Pediatric Dentist

Dr. Maria

Dr. Meliton was born in Manila, Philippines and was raised in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. During her undergraduate studies, Dr. Meliton worked very closely with the Department of Psychology specifically with studies of social development in children under the tutelage of Dr. Celia Brownell. It was during this time that she knew that eventually her career would involve working with children.

Dr. Meliton received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. She went on to complete her Pediatric Dentistry training at the Eastman Dental Center, which is affiliated with the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry. Upon successful completion of her residency training, Dr. Meliton became an associate in a general dental practice owned by Dr. George Stuppy in Christiana, PA. Dr. Stuppy outfitted the lower level of his building to accommodate the pediatric population of his bustling practice. It was a great opportunity for Dr. Meliton to get acquainted and acclimated to living in Lancaster County and to see if she wanted to stay in the area. After four years, Dr. Meliton considered Lancaster County home and purchased the pediatric portion of the dental practice from Dr. Stuppy.

The pediatric dental practice has now grown by leaps and bounds. In 2000, a new and larger office location was constructed in Gap, PA. With the growth of the western part of the county, Dr. Meliton knew that eventually a second office would be necessary. A lot of the patients who were seen in the Gap office lived in the East Hempfield and Manheim Township areas of Lancaster. Dr. Meliton knew that a second location that would be geographically desirable to those patients would make things more convenient for them. Plans for the second office location began in 2005. Dr. Meliton worked with an award-winning architectural firm for this project. Andreas Charalambous of Forma Design designed a very modern and unexpected space for the newly named “M2” office. The practice name “M2” is derived from Dr. Meliton’s initials and signifies that it’s office #2. Dr. Meliton wanted this space to surprise and thrill her patients and to make it unlike any other dental office for children. Filled with glass walls, concrete countertops, flat screen LCD televisions and the most up-to-date video games, the office opened in February of 2006. Dr. Meliton and her team divide their time between the two locations and look forward to many years of serving the dental needs of children and teens of Lancaster County.

Dr. Meliton resides in Lititz with Dr. Patalowski and their Coton de Tulear and love of their life, Dolce. Dr. Meliton enjoys cooking and decorating and will often be found with another design project to tackle. She also looks forward to vacationing several times a year in her home away from home, Naples, Florida.

Lee Patalowski, DMD, MAGD

Teen & Special Care Dentistry

Dr. Lee

Dr. Lee Patalowski was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania. His undergraduate dental studies were completed at Temple University and at the University of Scranton. Dr. Patalowski received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Kornberg School of Dentistry, affiliated with Temple University. During dental school, Dr. Patalowski’s interest in oral and maxillofacial reconstructive surgery led him to an externship with Kenneth Rotskoff, DDS, MD in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Patalowski observed and assisted with multiple and complex oral surgery and reconstructive cases.

Dr. Patalowski is a lifelong student and is voracious about attending continuing education courses and expanding his knowledge in dentistry. He has amassed over 2000 hours of continuing education credits since graduation from dental school. He was one of the youngest recipients of the highest honor of Master in the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Patalowski’s private practice career began with a hospital-based practice in Philadelphia. In addition to treating a general dental population, Dr. Patalowski became very involved with working with individuals who were developmentally or mentally disabled. He enjoyed working with his “special needs” patients and at times provided comprehensive care under general anesthesia in a hospital operating room setting. Realizing that most dental offices were not equipped or able to handle these individuals, Dr. Patalowski’s practice became known for accommodating this special group of patients.

Dr. Patalowski was an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Pathology, Medicine & Surgery at the Kornberg School of Dentistry. He was also on the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.

As Dr. Meliton’s pediatric practice grew, it became quite apparent that they needed to combine their dental interests into one practice. Dr. Patalowski sold his private practice in Philadelphia and joined Dr. Meliton’s practice. Today, Dr. Patalowski treats the teenage population of the practice concentrating on their cosmetic, surgical and restorative dental needs. He has been a great asset to the practice in terms of being able to provide cosmetic options such as teeth whitening and veneers to our patients after orthodontic treatment. Additionally, Dr. Patalowski continues to provide comprehensive dental care to children and adults with special needs.

Dr. Patalowski lives in Lititz with Dr. Meliton and their “only child”, Coton de Tulear, Dolce. He is an avid stock market and investments whiz and successfully trades options. He is our technology expert and is always finding new gadgets and dental toys to include in our practice.
