First Visit
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry along with the American Dental Association recommends that the child’s first visit should coincide with his or her first birthday. Often, this first visit involves a simple oral examination and talking to the parents about oral hygiene techniques, teething, oral habits such as pacifier use and thumb sucking and preventing dental decay. We encourage parents to seek an initial visit at this age because it fosters good dental habits and enables early intervention if problems do exist.
When you schedule an appointment with our office, patient information forms will be emailed to you and you are asked to complete them and email or fax them back to us. Therefore, at your actual visit, you will not have to be troubled with paperwork. On the day of your appointment, we want everyone’s complete attention to be on your child.
If you are being referred to our office by a pediatrician, family dentist or another pediatric dentist, please inform our staff of your child’s existing dental problems. Any diagnostic x-rays that were taken by a previous dentist should be obtained and forwarded to us prior to your child’s appointment. Your child’s first visit or consultation will involve an oral examination, radiographic review, and formulation of a treatment plan that would encompass recommendations for restoring his or her mouth to optimal health. We encourage you to ask questions and to inquire about options for your child’s treatment. It is our goal to provide you and your child with a plan that is comfortable for everyone. Our treatment coordinator will be involved throughout your consultation visit to assist you with any questions or concerns.
